Detailed camera and image handling terms

Camera and scanning

PlannedMeal asks for camera access so you can scan food, capture meal images, and optionally take a profile avatar photo. The camera is not used in the background.

For food scans, the camera opens only when you go to the Scan tab and tap the capture control. If you use an avatar, the camera or photo picker opens only after you choose to add or update your profile picture.

If you decide not to grant camera access, you can still use other parts of PlannedMeal, but scan-based features and in-app photo capture will not be available.

How images are processed

Food scan images may be processed on your device, on PlannedMeal servers, or by service providers that help PlannedMeal analyze food images and return scan results. We use image data to identify foods, estimate portions, improve reliability, prevent abuse, and support the feature you requested.

Profile avatar images are used only to display your profile within PlannedMeal. We do not sell your photos, and we do not use food scan or avatar images for third-party advertising.

If PlannedMeal uses a third-party image-analysis or AI provider, that provider receives only the image and related technical data needed to deliver the scan result or keep the service secure.

Storage, deletion, and your rights

Saved images can remain on your device and in your PlannedMeal account until you delete them. Unsaved food scan photos are removed after processing or within 30 days unless a longer period is required for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.

You can delete saved scan history, remove an avatar, revoke camera access in your device settings, or ask us to delete account-linked images by contacting hello@plannedmeal.com.

If we update this policy to reflect new camera, storage, or processor behavior, we will publish the revised version on this page before the change takes effect.
